The representative palace from the baroque era is located in the center of the street called Friedrichstraße and is therefor an effective eye-catcher. The funnel-shaped Friedrichstraße opens out into a square in front of the chancellor palace. The palace is the ancient domicile of chancellor Vogelius von Schildeck and Wagner as well as the aulic coucil Zwenger. It was used as a town hall from 1782 to 1900. After 1900 the palace was - with adjournments - used as the location for the German bank Sparkasse. Today an adult education center as well as the city council are located in the rooms of the palace.
